Dermatologic Surgery and Mohs Micrographic Surgery for Skin Cancer
Dr. Rayhan and his staff perform dermatologic surgery for a wide range of skin diseases. Excision of atypical moles, cysts and other lesions is offered in our office.

Dr. Rayhan and his associates also offer Mohs Micrographic Surgery for the treatment of certain types of skin cancer. Mohs surgery is a highly effective method for removing certain types of skin cancer. It is an exacting procedure in which the dermatologist performs the surgical removal of the skin cancer and examines the surgical margins themselves to check for the cancer's removal.

Mohs surgery offers the highest possible cure rate for certain types of skin cancers and at the same time minimizes the amount of normal tissue sacrificed. Microscopic analysis of removed tissue allows the surgeon to track the removal of the cancer and allow for higher rates of removal of all tumor roots. As tumors often extend below intact normal skin (like the roots of a tree) this procedure allows the surgeon to see beyond the visible tumor to aid in removal.

The technique is most often used to remove the two most common forms of skin cancer: basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma.
